Ode To My 64 Box Of Crayons

11 Nov

Oh there is Maroon, Antique Brass, Plum,

And Aquamarnie,

Asparagus, Yellow,

And Atomic Tangerine,

Who can’t live without Beaver, Bittersweet, Black,

And Blizzard Blue?

Or Blue Bell, Blue Grey, Blue Green, Blue Violet,

In fact Blues of every hue?

It’s better to Blush than be Brick Red,

As also to be Brown, than Burnt Orange,

But to be Burnt Sienna is something to be said.

Cadet Blue is pretty,

While Inchworm is silly.

Caribbean Green, Carnation Pink, Cerulean, or Cerise,

If it had one, would be the color of the breeze.

Chestnut and Copper,

Are understated colors,

While Cornflower, Cotton Candy, and Dandelion,

Stand out amongst the others.

If the world was colored Denim, Red, or Eggplant,

Then Scarlet, Magenta, and Forest Green

Would be jealous of that.

Fuchsia is to Purple,

As Gold is to Goldenrod,

However Fuzzy Wuzzy is not to Midnight Blue,

Those colors are too cool.

Grey and Green like Vivid Tangerine,

While Mango Tango hates Magenta,

If you ask

Tan and Pink,

They are always ones to think,

That nothing rhymes with Orange.

    I love this…
I just broke into a new box of 64 this weekend. I colored on Spongebob. I understand the fascination with colors.

Lovely… and anything rhymes with orange if you’re Dr. Suess. Orange plorange!

    • Christopher De Voss November 11, 2013 at 9:49 AM #

I think Dr. Suess cheated a lot!

Chris, I want to frame this. It’s brilliant. I love the burnt colors, no, wait, I mean I love Mango Tango. What could wrong with Inchworm or Cerulean? I will never look on a box of crayons the same way.

Someone needs to make up a word rhyming with orange. Maybe I will. The word is “blorange”. It’s that feeling you get when you eat a lot and go to sleep and wake up not feeling well. Like a hangover for food. I dare you to use it.

    • Christopher De Voss November 11, 2013 at 7:01 PM #

Challenge accepted. Maybe tomorrow though, tonight I feel a little blorange.

    • Chowderhead November 12, 2013 at 2:51 AM #

Actually, a “cornge” is a makeshift bong made out of a corn cob.

Good to know! I’m from Ohio originally, you would have thought I knew this already.

    DeVoss,

It got progressively funnier. I couldn’t block the image in my head of Fred Rogers skipping through a daisy patch and singing this poem. Every time he names one off he tosses it into the field very carelessly, you know, like the next color in the box caught more of his attention in that moment.

Awesome poem! (I kinda laughed at a color named Beaver)

    • Christopher De Voss November 12, 2013 at 6:35 PM #

I was hoping someone would mention that. 🙂

You definitely have a gift. I’m thinking “Beaver” is a Canadian colour.

I adored this lovely ode. I have the box of 64 crayons on my desk at work. Bring a coloring book and come visit me. ❤

    • Christopher De Voss November 15, 2013 at 9:26 AM #

Can it be a boob coloring book? They have them on Amazon.

      • rheath40 November 15, 2013 at 9:32 AM #

Sure, why not. Will you bring me one with penises in it? LOLOLOLOLOL!

      • Christopher De Voss November 15, 2013 at 9:34 AM #

        Sure!

      • rheath40 November 15, 2013 at 9:35 AM #
