Reflections of Christmas Gone By

17 Jan

Why talk about Christmas on January 17, 2012?

Because I just put the very last of the Christmas decorations away. Now before you get on my case too bad, it was just some Christmas Tree ornaments.

Why did it take so long to put away these last few Christmas bobbles?

Because some things about the Christmas season sucks.

For example:

Fun: Putting ornaments on the tree.

Un-fun: Taking ornaments of the tree.

Un-fun: Stringing lights on the house.

Un-fun: Stringing lights on the house.

Fun: Watching other people stringing lights.

Fun: The thought of sitting down and introducing all those wonderful Christmas shows to the next generation of kids.

Un-fun: Realizing how crappy technology was back then and watching your kids make fun of those shows.

Fun: The challenge of putting together a toy on Christmas morning.

Un-fun: Putting together a toy on Christmas morning

For live tree people:

Fun: Going to the tree farm and picking out a tree.

Un-fun: Cleaning up tree needles for the next six months.

For artifical tree people:

Fun: Unpacking the tree and putting it together.

Un-fun: Wondering why there are artificial tree needles everywhere and wondering how much longer your $300 artificial tree is going to last before it Charlie Brown’s itself into a non-biodegradable death.

Fun: Christmas dinner with all the fixings and family from all over that you never get see.

Un-fun: Cleaning up Christmas dinner by yourself as the rest of the family is in a turkey coma in front of the TV.

Fun: Making a list about the pains of Christmas.

Un-fun: Being called a Scrooge for making a list about the pains of Christmas.

This doesn’t make you a Scrooge. Makes you sound more normal to me.

Thank you. I knew there were others who felt the same way. Occupy the Christmas Season!
